This 1:500 scale wood and metal ship model is a military identification model made during World War II of the Japanese battleship KONGO. It was made, along with many other models of Japanese, German, U.S., British, Italian, Russian, and French ships, by Comet Metal Co., Inc. under contract to the U.S. government. Such models were used to train naval and aviation personnel in warship recognition. They were also available for public purchase after the war.
