Clark first appeared in the New York City Directory in 1833, when he was listed as a merchant. For many years he lived at 830 Broadway, but in 1875 he moved to 450 Fifth Avenue, his permanent residence. This portrait bust was a gift to the New-York Historical Society from his great-granddaughter.
