Remarks: William of Orange was stadtholder of Netherlands; married to Queen Mary II and they dually ruled England, Scotland and Ireland (1689-1702); He and his wife were both grandchildren of Charles I and had a claim to the throne; Overthrew James II in Glorious Revolution; wanted to spread Protestantism and decrease Catholic influence over France and Spain; Bill of Rights instituted by Parliament during their reign; William and Mary College in Virgina named after him and his wife.
