Remarks: Gave specimens of Light-mantled albatross (1863.17.407), Pelagic and brandt's cormorant (1863.17.412), Mountain quail (1863.17.423), Pygmy owl and Burrowing owl (1863.17.432) to Audubon; Audubon also named the Brandt's cormonant, Townsend's cormorant in his honor;Member of the Academy of Science, Philly; partner with Thomas Nuttall; traveled to the West coast of U.S. to collect specimens and after much discussion with his partner, he allowed Audubon to purchase his specimens
