Lucy Maria Durand Woodman
Date: 1829 - 1910
Remarks: Lucy Maria Durand was the daughter of artist Asher B. Durand and his first wife, Lucy (Baldwin) Durand. She was born on February 27, 1829, and grew up in the artistic world of her famous father. In the 1840s, she attended classes at the National Academy of Design in New York, and her work from this period, some of which is now in the Society's collection, indicates that she had considerable artistic promise. On March 4, 1852, she married George Woodman, a banker and broker. The Woodman's established a home in Orange, New Jersey, and Lucy continued to work as an amateur painter and exhibitor. In 1878, she exhibited a Study (no. 209) at the National Academy from an address 11 Waverly Place, New York City. She died in 1910.
