Joseph Wood
Date: ca. 1778 - 1830
Remarks: Joseph Wood was a miniature and portrait painter. He went to NYC at the age of 15 and apprenticed to a silversmith, but practiced miniature painting on the side. He opened a studion in 1801, but joined forces with John Wesley Jarvis until 1810. In 1813, he moved to Philadelphia and then in 1816 to Washington, where he spent his remaining years. Although he was held in high esteem for his miniatures, later in his career he made drawings for patent applications.
