Remarks: Auditor of the U.S. Treasury under secretary Alexander Hamilton whom he succeeded as Treasury in 1795; Remained as Secretary of the Treasury under Adams but resigned in 1800, moved to NY and entered into commercial ventures with Hamilton, Archibald Gracie and others; He moved to Litchfield, CT and was elected govenor and held the office for 10 years.
