Richard Welling

Remarks: Richard Welling was born and still lives in Hartford, Connecticut. He studied at the Yale School of Fine Arts and at the Parsons School of Design, from which he graduated in 1949. For seven years he was Assistant Art Director at the Charles Brunelle Company in Hartford. A freelance designer since 1957, Mr. Welling has participated in exhibitions at Trinity College, the National Arts Club of New York, the Connecticut Academy of Fine Arts, and the Connecticut Watercolor Society. Among his "portraits" of Hartford are a series of fifty drawings commissioned by the Hartford National Bank to document the construction of their new building and another series of one hundred drawings of the new Travelers Insurance Company building while under construction in downtown Hartford. In addition, he has drawn the New York skyline, which he adapted into a series of prints. Welling continues to draw the skyline of Hartford and to exhibit his work. In addition, he is a member of the Connecticut Academy of Fine Arts and of the Salmagundi Club, New York.
