Remarks: An aide-de-camp to Washington during the Revolutionary War because of his drawing ability; arrested for treason in England in 1780 after delivering a letter to Benjamin West from Benjamin Franklin; studied with famous painter Benjamin West; studied in Europe. His paintings include "Declaration of Independence," "The Surrender of Burgoyne," "the Surrender of Cornwallis," "The Death of General Warren at Bunker's Hill," and portraits of Jefferson, Hamilton, Jay and Washington.
