Utley Spencer
Date: 1806 - 1878
Remarks: Utley was the son of Stephen Spencer, Sr. (1766-1846), and Cynthia (Utley) Spencer (1763-1834) who settled on a farm in Nunda, New York, in 1818. He became a teacher and worked in a general store; he then became a builder and contractor specializing in railroads. He served as the town constable, deputy sheriff, town collecter, justice of the peace, and postmaster. In 1832 Spencer married Laura Lake (1808-44); they had five children: Charles Lake, Julia Augusta, Julia Cynthia, Mary Elizabeth, and Laura Althea.
