Ambrose Spencer

Remarks: Ambrose Spencer was the son of Philip Spencer and Abigail (Moore) Spencer. He was elected to the State Legislature of New York (1793-1802). Mr. Spencer married the sister of De Witt Clinton (1769-1828). He was elected New York State attorney general. In 1804, he was appointed to the New York State Supreme Court, he was later named chief justice (1819). He served as the mayor of Albany (1824), and was elected to Congress (1829).
