Mary Scott

Remarks: Mary Howard Sturgis was the daughter of Robert Shaw Sturgis (1824-1876) and Susan Brimmer (Inches) Sturgis, of Philadelphia. Miss Sturgis married Edgar Thomson Scott, and lived in Landsdowne, Pennsylvania. The couple had four children: Edgar Thomson Scott, Jr. (b. 1899), Warwick P. Scott, Anna D. Scott (Mrs. Moorhead C. Kennedy, Jr.), and Susan B. S. Scott. Her husband was secretary of the American Embassy in Paris. He was later killed in action while serving as a major in the U.S. Army in France. Mrs. Scott took an active role in humanitarians issue by helping to found the Mt. Desert Hospital in Bar Harbor, Maine. She was also a trustee of the First Unitarian Church of Philadelphia.
