Cornelius Amory Pugsley
Date: 1850 - 1936
Remarks: Pugsley, a banker and congressman, was the son of Gilbert and Julia Butler (Meeker) Puglesy. At the age of twenty he went to work for the Westchester County National Bank of Peekskill and by 1897 was its president, serving in that capacity until he retired in 1933. Soon after the turn of the century he became a politician and was elected to Congress (1900-03) on the Democratic ticket. In 1912 he was a delegate to his party's national convention and chairman of the state finance committee in the presidential campaign. Pugsley was president of the board of trustees of the Peekskill Military Academy and was a benefactor of Rollins College in Florida. In 1886 he married Emma Catherine Gregory, and the couple had a son, Chester DeWitt Pugsley.
