Robert Monckton
Date: 1726 - 1782
Remarks: Robert Monckton was born in England. At an early age he joined the British army. He served for many years before becoming a member of Parliament (1751). He later joined the 47th Foot Guards, as a lieutenant Colonel, and was stationed in Nova Scotia, Canada (1752). In 1759, he was named second in command of the Quebec expedition. Lt. Col Monckton was made a major general and appointed governor of New York (1761-1763). After 1763, he returned to England and again served in Parliament and as governor of both Berwick-on-tweed and Portsmouth.
