Frederick Townsend Martin

Remarks: Frederick Townsend Martin was the third son of Henry Hull Martin (1809-86)and Anna (Townsend) Martin (d.1866) of Albany. Martin was prominent in American and European society. He was a patron of the Plaza Hotel in New York and a sponser of many events there: in 1907 a tea and dramatic performance featuring Mrs. George Jay Gould; in 1908 a soiree honoring actress Billie Burke; and in 1909 a dinner for Lady Paget. He was the author of "The Passing of the Idle Rich" (1911) and "Things I Remember" (1913). Martin never married; Mrs. Bradley Martin was his sister-in-law.
