Paul Manship
Date: 1885 - 1966
Remarks: One of the leading 20th century American sculptors. He studied at the St. Paul Art Institute, the Arts Students League in New York, and the Pennslyvania Academy of Fine Arts. He won the Prix de Rome which took him to Italy for 3 years. Once he returned to the U.S. his reputation was secured with the many bronzes and small group compositions he created. He was a prolific and versatile artist, he was deeply influenced by the classical tradition and executed many commissions for portrait busts, metaphorical life-size figures and commemorative medallions
