Philip Livingston
Date: 1716 - 1778
Remarks: A member of the influential Livingston family. Philip was a member of the provincial assembly, a member of the committee of correspondance, a delegate to the stamp-act congress, a delegate to the Continental Congress and a signer of the Declaration of Independence. At his house, Washington held the council of War that decided the retreat from Long Island. He was a member of the state assembly and a state senator. He helped found the New York Society Library and the chamber of congress. He died while attending the sixth session of the Continental Congress.
