Robert Lenox

Remarks: Robert Lenox was the son of James Lenox and Elizabeth (Sproat) Lenox, of Kirkcudbright, Scotland. He was the brother of James Lenox. After his arrival in America, just before the Revolution, he became a prosperous merchant. Mr. Lenox invested wisely, and profited from real estate. He became the president of the Chamber of Commerce, and president of the Mutual Insurance Company (1809). Mr. Lenox married Miss Rachel Carmer, of New York. The couple had three children: Elizabeth Sproat Lenox (Mrs. Robet Maitland, 1785-1864), James Lenox (1800-1880), and Alethea Lenox.
