Mrs. Jacob Leisler

Remarks: Daughter of Mrs. Govert Loockermans, who emigrated to New Amsterdam from Holland. Elsje Tymens was a wealthy widow when she married Jacob Leisler (1640-1691) in 1663. She was connected with many leading Dutch families, including the Bayards and Van Cortlandts. She had one daughter with Leisler, Hester (Mrs. Barent Rynders, Jr., 1673-1757/63. Jacob Leisler a principal figure in the Leisler Rebellion which followed the Glorious Revolution. He was an anti-Catholic insurrectionist who supported the claim of William of Orange to the throne of England. He was a principal figure in the Leisler Rebellion which followed the Glorious Revolution.
