John Frederick Kensett
Date: 1816 - 1872
Remarks: One of a second generation of Hudson River School artists, Kensett trained as an engraver but later became one of the most popular landscape painters of his day. Like Thomas Cole and Asher B. Durand, Kensett perceived nature as a manifestation of God, but expressed his vision through contemplative luminist landscapes and shoreline views.
