Rufus King
Date: 1755 - 1827
Remarks: Rufus King was a lawyer and Federalist statesman. Graduated Harvard, 1777; studied law under Theophilus Parsons at Newburyposrt, MA., where he practiced after 1780. Mass. congressman 1784-1786; Married Mary Alsop, daughter of wealthy New York merchant, they moved to NY 1786. Served in NY Assembly and in the legislature. Succeeded Thomas Pinckney as US ambassador to Great Britain, 1796-1803.
