Remarks: Martin Luther King, Jr., a graduate of Morehouse College, Crozer Theological Seminary and Boston University, became one of the most important civil rights leaders in the 1950¿s and 1960¿s. King was a firm believer in the policy of nonviolent resistance and in 1964 was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. In the mid-sixties, King also turned his attention to protesting the Vietnam War and fighting to end poverty. On April 4, 1968, while in Memphis supporting a strike, King was shot and killed on the balcony of a motel. ¿Source:
