James Hazen Hyde
Date: 1876 - 1959
Remarks: Succeeded his father as president of the Equitable Life Assurance Society after serving as Vice president from 1899-1905. He was greatly interested in the French nation, its people and culture. He was the founder of the Alliance Francais in America, received the Grand Cross of the Legion of Honor from the French government, and was a member of the Academie des Sciences Morales et Politiques. Hyde was also a great coaching enthusiast, forming an elite club to resurrect the vanishing sport, as well as a member of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, The New-York Historical Society, the Pierpont Morgan Library and the American Geographical Society.
