Sir William (1729-1814) Howe
Date: 1729 - 1814
Remarks: Sir William Howe, like his older brother the admiral, dedicated his life to a military career. He participated in the French and Indian Wars and the expedition to Cuba before serving in the colonies. In 1775, he was made commander-in-chief in the colonies and knighted by the King. Howe had some successes while in control of the colonies, for example he was able to capture most of New York and New Jersey, however, he was never able to completely eradicate Continental forces under George Washington. In 1778, he resigned and returned to England, while General Clinton succeeded him in the colonies. ¿Source:
