George Peter Alexander Healy

Remarks: Portrait and historical painter. Healy was one of the most successful 19th century portrait painters. He began his career in Boston before going to France and studying under Gros. In 1842, he returned to the U.S. He was already internationally known and patronized by the royal families of England and France. In the United States, his sitters included most of the prominent statesman of the time, as well as the leaders of society and business.
