Rush Christopher Hawkins

Remarks: Rush Christopher Hawkins was a New York City lawyer who served as a colonel in the Union army, commanding the 9th Regiment of New York Volunteers (Hawkins' Zouaves). The regiment was raised in New York and served from 1861 to 1863, fighting at Hatteras Inlet, Roanoke Island, Winton, South Mills, South Mountain, Antietam, Fredericksburg, and Suffolk. Hawkins was also Chairman of the New York Histical Society.
