Mary Hammond

Remarks: Mary Elizabeth Hammond was the daughter of Richard Hammond and Sarah Elizabeth (Hayes) Hammond. She was closely associated with her brother, John Hayes Hammond, a noted geologist and mining engineer. She accompanied him on many of his travels and on a special mission as U.S. Representative at the coronation of King George V and Queen Mary of England. Miss Hamond was a Spanish scholar, a translator of the works of Lope de Vega, and a contributor to the Atlantic Monthly and other magazines.
