David Grim
Date: 1737 - 1826
Remarks: Grim came to New York with his parents whie still an infant. From 1767-1789 was the proprietor of the Hessian's Coffee House, first on Chapel Street, then on William Street. Many German immigrants congregated there. He was president of the German Society of the City of New York, succeeding Baron von Steuben in that office. After 1789 he became a merchant and prospered. He married twice, the second time to Mary Barwick in 1781. Grim is also remembered as an antiquarian.
