Grace Gray

Remarks: Grace Townsend Hawkshurst, daughter of William Hawkshurst and Sarah (Townsend) Hawkshurst, was born in Staten Isalnd. She was the second wife of Judge John Clinton Gray (d.1915), a prominent New York jurist and for many years a judge for the court of appeals. The couple lived in New York and had a summer home in Newport. She was the mother of Austen Gray and the stepmother of four children, Henry G., Albert Zabriskie, Edith (Mrs. R. Reynolds Hitt), and Pauline (Mrs. Thomas Witherspoon), who were born to Judge Gray and his first wife, Henrietta (Gunther) Gray.
