Archibald Gracie
Date: 1755 - 1829
Remarks: Archibald Gracie came to America after the Revolution. He eventually settled in New York and established himself as a successful merchant and banker. Mr. Gracie married Miss Ester Rogers. The couple had six childern. The family's stately mansion is now used as the official residence of the Mayors of New York City. In business, he traded with both Europe and Asia, until Napoleon seized most of his ships under the Berlin and Milan decrees, which ordered the confiscation of any ships trading with England.
