Archibald Gracie
Date: 1795 - 1865
Remarks: Archibald Gracie, Jr. was the son of Archibald Gracie (1755-1829), the orginal owner of Gracie mansion, now the official home of New York City's mayors, and Ester (Rogers) Gracie. He became a merchant in Mobile, Alabama, and married Elizabeth Davidson Bethune of North Carolina. When the Civil War broke out he remained loyal to the North, although his son Archibald (b. 1832) distinguished himself as a Confederate soldier before being killed a the battle of Petersburg.
