Gerald Ford
Date: 1913 - 2006
Remarks: Gerald Ford began his political career by serving in Congress for a quarter of a century. Self-proclaimed as "a moderate in domestic affairs, a conservative in fiscal affairs, and a dyed-in-the-wool internationalist in foreign affairs," Ford succeeded the first president ever to resign, Richard Nixon. During his three years in office, Ford worked hard to maintain peace in the Middle East, perserve the country's reputation after Vietnam and combat inflation at home. Ford lost the election of 1977 and Jimmy Carter took office, acknowledging all that Ford had done in his inauguaration speech. -Source: http://www.whitehouse.gov/history/presidents/gf38.html
