Lydia Emmet
Date: 1866 - 1952
Remarks: Lydia was the sister of Jane Erin Emmet and a widely honored painter of children's portraits. She studied painting in Paris with Bouguereau and Fleury and in New York with William Chase and Frederick MacMonnies. She was a member of the National Academy of Design and the recipient of numerous prizes and awards. She maintained a studio in New York, and it is said that for many years she rode horseback from New York to her summer home in Stockbridge, MA stopping off en route to visit friends along the Hudson.
