Jo Davidson
Date: 1883 - 1952
Remarks: Davidson was one of America's foremost portrait sculptors. He sculpted many of the most important figures of his time. Although his sculpture was more conservative than many of his contemporaries like Brancusi and Duchamp, it still had a tremendous impact. He studied at the Arts Students League and briefly at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts. He was a member of the National Academy of Design and the National Sculpture Society. His autobiography gave great insight into his career and philisophy on sculpting.
