John Watts De Peyster
Date: 1821 - 1907
Remarks: Son of Frederic De Peyster; grandson of John Watts; Joined the NY Militia as a youth and quickly became a Major and Colonel; Governor Hamilton Fish gave him command of the 22nd Regiment and was ranked Brigadier General, also given the beret rank of Major General in the National Guard; involved in the NYC Police and Fire Depts; wrote several books including "Personal and Military History of Philip Kearney" 1869 and "Napoleone di Buonaparte" 1896
