Charles Frederick De Loosey

Remarks: Charles Frederick De Loosey was the Austrian-Hungarian Counsel General of New York from 1850-1870. He was a cousin of Emperor Maximilian of Mexico. Maximilian was the brother of the Emperor Francis Joseph of Austria-Hungary. De Loosey prevailed upon the U.S. to acknowledge his cousin Maximilian as Emperor. He was also a civil engineer, and codified the letter of Patent Privileges of all the countries of Europe, the U.S. and the Dutch West Indies; the Society is in possession of these documents.
