Adelaide de Groot
Remarks: Adelaide was the daughter of William de Groot (1825-1898) and Elizabeth King (Hawley) de Groot (1833-1926) of New York. She studied art in Paris and about 1920 began to collect the works of 19th and 20th century painters, mainly European. She amassed an impressive collection of work. She eventually gave her collection to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Miss de Groot was a member of the Daughters of the Revolution. She gave a large collection of portraits of her family to The New-York Historical Society in the 1940s.
