George William Curtis

Remarks: on the editorial staff of the NY Tribune and then became associate editor of "Pullman's Monthly" and by 1853 began the series "The Editior's Easy Chair" for Harper's magazine which brought him national recognition; editor of Harper's weekly 1863-1892; Orator and brillant lecturer and took an active part in campaigns of the Republican and Independent parties; among others he was author of "Lotus Eating" 1852, 'Potpar papers" 1853, "Pure and I" 1857; his "Orations and Addresses" (3 vols. 1894) were edited by Charles Eliot Norton
