Thomas S. Cummings
Date: 1804 - 1894
Remarks: He was one of the founder's of the National Academy of Design (1826) and he was treasurer for 40 years. In 1865, he published the first history of that institution. He was primarily a portrait and miniature painter who for a period of time (1826-1828) was a partner of Henry Inman. In that partnership Inman agreed to take the life-scale portrait commissions and Cummings the miniatures.
