Julie Cruger
Date: 1847-1920
Remarks: Daughter of Thomas Storrow of Boston and grandniece of Washington Irving. She married Colonel Stephen Van Rensselaer Cruger on April 21, 1868. The couple resided at Idlesse, Bayville, Long Island and at Cruger's Island, Dutchess County, NY. Mrs. Cruger wrote her first novel "A Diplomat's Diary" in 1890 while living in Russia when her husband was the American Ambassador there. Her novel was written under the pen name Julien Gordon. She later wrote sonnets and lyrics and other novels. After her husband's death, she married Wade Chance, a broker, in 1908 but divorced in 1915.
