Jean Baptiste Camille Corot
Date: French, 1796 - 1875
Remarks: Jean-Baptiste Camille Corot began painting in 1822, studying under two classical landscape painters. It was from these teachers that Corot learned to work directly outside, sketching and sometimes painting an entire piece out of doors, which greatly influenced his style. Corot traveled to Italy, England, Switzerland and Holland, painting his reflections of each place in the same realist style for which he was becoming known. Just five years after entering the world of painting, Corot began regularly exhibiting in the Paris Salon, establishing his reputation. Corot passed away in France on February 22, 1875 and in May of 1875, a large exhibiton of his work was held at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts. -Source: http://www.europeanpaintings.com/exhibits/frlscape/corotbio.htm and http://www.bartleby.com/65/co/Corot-Je.html
