James Henry Cafferty
Date: 1819 - 1869
Remarks: He moved to New York City in the 1840's and achieved a reputation as a portrait painter. He first exhibited at the American Art-Union and at the National Academy of Design in 1843. Besides portraits, he exhibited many landscapes and genre scenes, and in 1853 he was elected an Academician at the National Academy of Design. Fish and game pieces occupied most of his time after 1862, but in 1869 he collaborated with Lemuel Maynard Wiles (1826-1905) on the Grave Digger from Hamlet.
