Théobald Chartran
Date: French, 1849 - 1907
Remarks: Chartran was a student of Alexandre Cabanal at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts and in 1887 won the Grand Prix de Rome. His work was mainly academic, but he also painted a few portraits, the best known being that of Sarah Bernhardt. He was much honored and decorated in the 1880's and 1890's, and he spent the last years of his life in New York where he had an elegant and fashionable portrait clientele.
