Thomas Chambers
Date: British-American, 1808 - 1866
Remarks: He immigrated to the United States in 1832, he settled in New York City and became a naturalized citizen. From 1834 to 1837 he is listed in the New York directories as a landscape artist. Then, from 1838 until 1840, he is listed as a marine painter. Primarily a landscape artist, Chambers adapted his topographic English style to the American River Hudson School tradition, basing many of his landscapes on prints by Thomas Doughty, Asher B. Durand, and others. Chambers last dateable work is 1863.
