Remarks: He supported many reform causes: anti-slavery, temperance, and self-education. he wrote extensively on these topics in the weekly "Christian Citizen" which he edited. He promoted peace and the abolition of war. His best known books were "Sparks from the Anvil" 1846 and "Ten Minute Talks" 1873
