Mary Louise Baker
Date: 1883 - 1904
Remarks: Baker was born in January 1883, and lived in the area of Darien and Norton, Connecticut. She was probably the sister of George Augustus Baker, Jr., who livedi n Darien late in his life. Though almost nothing is known about Baker's training as an artist, it is possible that she was a member of an Episcopalian order of nuns in Connecticut. Over the course of her lifetime, Baker exhibited seven paintings at the National Academy of Design: one in 1880, two in 1881, and four in 1882. Five of the items she exhibited were floral works and two were portraits. She died in 1904 and was buried in the cemetery of Trinity Church in Manhattan.
