Leonard Bleecker
Date: 1755 - 1844
Remarks: Major Bleeker was the son of James Bleeker and Abigail (Lispenard) Bleeker. After being appointed a second lieutenant in 1775 he joined General Richard Montgomery's forces in the battle at St. Johns, Quebec, Canada. He was also present at the battles of Long Island, Princeton, and Trenton, and in 1777 was promoted to the rank of captain. In 1780-81 he served under Lafayette and witnessed the surrender of Cornwallis at Yorktown; by then he had risen to the rank of brevet major. Bleeker was one of the original members of theSociety of the Cincinnati. He devoted the remainder of his life to his interest in religion. He married Johanna Abeel and later married Grace Moore Berrian.
