Description: Dark blue wool artillery Captain's trousers with red stripe down the side of each leg; 4 button fly, 6 buttons around the waistband, watch pocket on right beside stripe beneath waistband, vertical slit pockets behind stripe on both sides, horizontal slit pocket on right rear, 2 straps across the center back beneath waistband, with rectangular metal buckle with double-tongued chape; waistband and pockets lined with white linen; all buttons are plain circular painted black.

According to the accession record, these artillery trousers were worn by Walter P. Beaumont (d. ca. 1874) of the 1st Massachusetts Artillery. However, there are three conflicting accounts of the details of the original owner, including rank, dates of service, regiment, and date of discharge.
