Description: Mahogany Federal chair with crest rail and 3 serpentine slats carved with pierced, interlaced, loop pattern; outflaring mold stiles with carved ears; serpentine seat with upholstery over the seat rail; through tenon visible in rear; square, molded front legs with rectangular side, rear, and medial stretchers.

According to the accession records, this chair belonged to the honorable John Watts (1749-1836), who was the last Royal Recorder of the Province of New York, speaker of the New York Assembly from 1791to 1793, and member of U.S. Congress from 1793 to 1795. The chairs later belonged to General John Watts De Peyster.
