Mary Morris Hamilton was the daughter of New York lawyer James A. Hamilton, the third son of Alexander Hamilton and Elizabeth (Schuyler) Hamilton. She became the second wife of George Lee Schuyler, noted yachtsman of New York, in 1869. Her portrait was a gift to the Society from her stepdaughters.
